El litio transfiere 1 electr\u00f3n por ion. El magnesio transfiere 2. El aluminio transfiere 3. En teor\u00eda, eso deber\u00eda dar a la bater\u00eda de aluminio tres veces la capacidad del litio por el mismo volumen de material activo. La realidad es m\u00e1s compleja \u2014el voltaje es menor y los electrodos compatibles son escasos\u2014 pero la promesa te\u00f3rica es real.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ali-how\">\n<div class=\"ali-box\">\n<h3>\u2699\ufe0f \u00c1nodo de aluminio met\u00e1lico<\/h3>\n<p>Como el magnesio-ion, el aluminio puede usarse directamente como \u00e1nodo met\u00e1lico sin necesidad de estructurarlo en grafito. Eso simplifica la fabricaci\u00f3n y elimina uno de los materiales m\u00e1s caros del litio-ion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ali-box\">\n<h3>\ud83c\udf21\ufe0f C\u00e1todo de grafito espumoso<\/h3>\n<p>La contribuci\u00f3n clave del equipo de Stanford: un c\u00e1todo de grafito en estructura de espuma 3D. Los iones AlCl\u2084\u207b del electrolito se intercalan en los planos del grafito durante la carga, con espacio suficiente para permitir ciclos ultrarr\u00e1pidos sin fracturar el material.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ali-box\">\n<h3>\ud83e\uddea Electrolito i\u00f3nico l\u00edquido<\/h3>\n<p>A base de cloruro de aluminio (AlCl\u2083) y un l\u00edquido i\u00f3nico org\u00e1nico. No inflamable \u2014a diferencia del carbonato de litio\u2014 y estable a temperatura ambiente. El voltaje de la celda de aluminio-ion es de ~2 V, contra los 3,6\u20134,2 V del litio-ion. Y la capacidad espec\u00edfica del c\u00e1todo de grafito es limitada. Resultado: en la pr\u00e1ctica, la energ\u00eda almacenada por kilogramo es muy inferior a la del litio, lo que hace inviable usarla en tel\u00e9fonos o veh\u00edculos que necesitan autonom\u00eda razonable.<\/p>\n<p>Es r\u00e1pida para cargar, s\u00ed \u2014pero guarda poca energ\u00eda relativa. Eso la hace interesante para aplicaciones donde la velocidad de carga importa m\u00e1s que la autonom\u00eda: herramientas el\u00e9ctricas, drones de tiempo de vuelo corto o sistemas de microalmacenamiento de red. El escalado industrial tambi\u00e9n presenta desaf\u00edos con el cloruro de aluminio, que es corrosivo y dif\u00edcil de manejar en grandes vol\u00famenes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ali-curiosity\">\n<strong>\ud83d\udca1 Dato curioso \u2014 La celda que sobrevivi\u00f3 a ser doblada<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>En el paper original de Stanford publicado en Nature (2015), el equipo dobl\u00f3 la celda, la clav\u00f3 con un clavo y la someti\u00f3 a cortocircuito intencional. No se incendi\u00f3. Eso era pr\u00e1cticamente imposible con el litio-ion de la \u00e9poca. Esa demostraci\u00f3n de seguridad fue lo que gener\u00f3 el entusiasmo medi\u00e1tico: no s\u00f3lo era r\u00e1pida, tambi\u00e9n era segura en condiciones de abuso extremo. Hoy ese hallazgo sigue siendo v\u00e1lido \u2014 el problema es escalar la energ\u00eda, no la seguridad.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ali-note\">\n<strong>\ud83d\udccc Nota<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Las bater\u00edas de aluminio-ion <strong>no est\u00e1n disponibles en Argentina ni en el mercado de consumo global<\/strong>.
