Tiene dos veces m\u00e1s densidad de carga volum\u00e9trica que el litio. Y a diferencia de las bater\u00edas de litio, no forma dendritas que causen cortocircuitos ni incendios. La diferencia est\u00e1 en el ion. El Mg\u00b2\u207a transporta dos cargas el\u00e9ctricas por cada ion (el litio s\u00f3lo transporta una), lo que permite m\u00e1s energ\u00eda por \u00e1tomo. El desaf\u00edo hist\u00f3rico fue que ese doble estado de carga hac\u00eda que el ion &#8220;se pegara&#8221; en los electrodos s\u00f3lidos. La investigaci\u00f3n reciente resolvi\u00f3 ese cuello de botella con materiales espinela.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mgn-works\">\n<div class=\"mgn-cell\">\n<h3>\u26a1 \u00c1nodo de magnesio met\u00e1lico<\/h3>\n<p>A diferencia del litio, el magnesio puede usarse como \u00e1nodo met\u00e1lico directo sin formar dendritas. Eso elimina el principal riesgo de cortocircuito interno que afecta a las celdas de litio.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mgn-cell\">\n<h3>\ud83d\udd0b C\u00e1todo spinel optimizado<\/h3>\n<p>Los investigadores del Argonne National Lab identificaron que eliminar defectos estructurales en el material espinela de \u00f3xido permite que los iones Mg\u00b2\u207a se muevan libremente.
